Thoughts On Cooking For My Family

I believe that food is more than just survival, it’s about comfort, love, and bringing people together.

It’s just Apollo and I this week.  Michelle and John have taken Sasha to California.  My first thought when I found out that I would be caring for Apollo for a week by myself was “oh no!  What can I feed him?”  Just goes to show how feeding the family and caring for the family are so interrelated.

As it turned out it was no problem at all.  We had a good time.  One of the things I promised him was a dinner out at Lucky’s Burgers in Manayunk.  They’re the best.  They also have Tater Tots on their menu that both Apollo and John enjoy a lot.

There were enough leftovers in the fridge that I didn’t need to do much cooking at all.  Michelle made a huge pot of chili before she left.  I couldn’t eat it because it was too spicy.  But Apolo enjoyed it for lunch several days.  Some days I bought hoagy sandwiches for him for his lunches at work.

We did okay, neither of us went hungry.  It was so easy to fall back into caretaker mode.  It comes so naturally.  Not so easy to unplug from it.  Michelle and John got home Sunday evening.  Monday morning at home I woke up all by myself and home and felt adrift.  So easy to be a Mom again, not so easy to unplug from it.  In a funk but no worries, it will pass.
